Hirosaki Park- Hidden Gem Full of Nature
Hirosaki park is used for many purposes throughout the year. With winter comes the snow lantern festival, in Spring sakura trees bloom and create a lovely scene, in Summer the Neputa festival lights up the night, and in the Fall Autumn festival leaves litter throughout the park. But what about in between?
Hirosaki is located in the Aomori prefecture, at the very tip of Honshu. At these times of the year tourists from all over crowd the park and enjoy these famous festivals. However, after festivities are over, the number of tourists in the city dries up quite fast, leaving Hirosaki as a sleepy city once again.
This sleepy characteristic of Hirosaki is often overlooked by people. They think, ‘why bother coming to Hirosaki if there’s not a festival in town?’, but that’s actually exactly when you should. Because that’s a common opinion among tourists, not many people come during festival downtime. This means that one can enjoy Hirosaki’s everyday-life atmosphere and make their own memories at their own pace rather than deal with the short lived hustle-and-bustle of the festivities.

Hirosaki park is full of nature, yet remains remarkably clean, quiet, and safe. Bears sightings and attacks are becoming an increasingly common problem within the Tohoku region, and the forests and farmland surrounding Hirosaki are no stranger to that. However, In Hirosaki park, you can enjoy natural views of plants, animals, and Mt. Iwaki in the distance, sounds of birds chirping and trees rustling, as well as locales such as Hirosaki Castle or the park’s information center with no worries!

Not only that, but Hirosaki park is only a few minutes’ walk away from several popular locales. Hirosaki City Museum is within the park itself, while the Neputa-Mura Village, Hirosaki City Culture Center, as well as the Tourist Information Center all lie on the outer edge of the park, and so many other interesting places are also within arm’s reach.

So while Hirosaki settles down again in between each of its exciting seasonal festivals, why not come and enjoy a slower, quieter experience that you might not find in another major city? Share a great memory of a picnic in the early hours of the day within Hirosaki park with your friends and family!
