Hirosaki Park is the home of over 2600 cherry blossom trees of about fifty different types.
The trees in this park are specially pruned using apple pruning techniques. This gives the trees here more flowering buds than cherry blossoms of other regions, and the flowers are rounder.
Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival holds a special place in the hearts of the locals since this festival welcomes spring after the long bitter-cold winter of Aomori.
This year, the cherry blossoms started blooming earlier than usual and someiyoshino have fallen, but Hirosaki Park has many varieties of cherry trees and visitors can still enjoy late blooming cherry blossoms.
